Local jobseekers are being encouraged to apply for new jobs at Maroondah City Council as part of the Victorian Government funded Working for Victoria initiative.

The initiative is designed to assist councils to employ jobseekers, including those significantly impacted by COVID-19, in roles that support the community.

Maroondah Mayor, Cr Kylie Spears, said the Working for Victoria fund would provide six-month employment opportunities to those in the community who needed it most.

“Whether you are unemployed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic or have been without work for a longer period of time, I encourage you to visit the Victorian Government’s Working for Victoria online portal and register your interest,” Cr Spears said.

Council will take on new employees to support a variety of roles including tree planting, gardening, landscaping and outdoor works such as garden bed enhancements, weeding, brush cutting and drainage management.

There will also be job opportunities available in areas including risk management, office administration, and community development and planning. All jobs will be offered as six-month contracts and are funded by the Victorian Government.

The roles will be available from this week, building on the more than 12,000 jobs already created across the state by Working for Victoria.

“Council is really pleased to be taking part in Working for Victoria and is looking forward to welcoming on board our new employees,” Cr Spears said.

“Not only will these positions help people get back into the workforce, they will also provide valuable on-the-ground work experience in roles that also deliver a real community benefit,” she said.
