Building approvals surge

There continues to be strong demand for construction in Cairns, with 503 new dwellings approved to date this financial year, a 71% increase for the same period last year.

There were 102 new single dwellings approved in January 2021, which is almost double the amount for January last year (53).

Approvals for garages/carports were also well up this financial year (351), compared to the same period in the previous year (222).

There have been 258 swimming pool approvals to date in 2020-21, slightly up when compared to the 243 approved for the same period in 2019-20.
