Gannawarra Shire Council will implement alternative arrangements for its February 2021 Council Meeting following the State Government’s announcement of a five-day COVID-19 lockdown.
The meeting, to be held on Wednesday, 17 February at 6.30pm, will proceed, but will be closed to the public.
“My fellow Councillors and I were looking forward to reopening Council Meetings to the public this month, but it is important that we adhere to the Victorian Government’s COVID-19 Stage 4 restrictions, which will be in place at the time of the meeting,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.
“However, it is important to note that attendance at a Council Meeting is not classified by the State Government as one of the four reasons to be outside your home at this time – shopping for the things you need, care and caregiving, exercise and work, if it is essential.”
The meeting will be livestreamed online at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/livestream, enabling residents to watch proceedings from the comfort of home, with video of each meeting broadcast available to view anytime at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/meetings
“Council’s efforts to livestream its meetings during last year proved to be popular, with this important process continuing to enable residents to witness democracy in action at this time,” Mayor Gillingham said.
Question Time will still be held as planned, with questions to be submitted in accordance with Council’s established Governance Rules:
“The Question Time form will provide people with guidance regarding how to frame questions to ensure greater clarity and a sufficient response from Council,” Mayor Gillingham said.
