Beaches first ‘My Place’ plan is born in Avalon

There’s a first for everything. After more than two years of working with the Avalon Beach community, we’re proud to release Council’s first place plan - My Place: Avalon.
Our new place planning process ‘My Place’ is a specific approach to planning, design and management of village and neighbourhood centres that focuses on resident’s connection to their local area.
A place plan helps articulate a clear compelling vision for our places and helps make them enjoyable and great places that are vibrant, safe, inclusive and sustainable.
Avalon Beach is a much-loved suburb and town centre on the Beaches; a place where the locals are passionate about everything from living close to nature, creativity and community.
Through the place planning process, locals have identified Avalon as: ‘A relaxed and peaceful coastal village, embracing and nurturing the natural environment, celebrating creativity and community connection.’
From the onset, a community reference group helped steer the direction and the group’s views, as well as the many other locals who have participated at pop-up stalls, completed surveys and shared their view, have been integral to the progress.
It’s been more than two years in the making and now My Place: Avalon is on public exhibition from Monday 15 February until Sunday 16 May 2021. View online and have your say.
