Northern Beaches home to the first NSW Community Battery

In an Australian east coast first, the Northern Beaches will be the host site for a trial of a community based battery.
The battery, installed in a park in Beacon Hill, is part of a two-year trial being run by Ausgrid in conjunction with Council and with support of the NSW Government.
The battery will allow a number of surrounding households to store excess power generated by the solar panels they have installed on their homes. This can then be used later, providing savings for those households in electricity costs and avoiding the need to purchase an individual battery.
The Beacon Hill site was selected as the first trial location because a significant number of residents already have solar panels.
Council has a target for 50% uptake of solar by 2030, so we will be watching the trial closely and hope, if successful, it will help more of our residents make the switch to solar.
The battery was launched onsite today by Ausgrid CEO Richard Gross NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean, Natalie Ward MLC and Mayor Micahel Regan.
