The car park on Railway Avenue in Mareeba will be transformed into a much needed off-street parking precinct.
Mareeba Shire Council has started works to expand the existing car park to accommodate additional parking spaces, including designated parking for RV travellers.
Located in the heart of the CBD, the new parking precinct will have a free 8-hour limit, giving those who work in the CBD more convenient options for parking in town. The project will also include installing solar lights in the area to improve community safety.
Council will keep local businesses and the community informed throughout the project and ensure disruptions are kept to a minimum as much as possible during construction.
Some parking bays on the western side of Railway Avenue between the old Telstra building and ANZ car park will be temporarily closed to allow some preliminary works to commence from Monday 15 February 2021. Changed traffic conditions will be in place throughout the project to enable works to be carried out safely.
Mayor Angela Toppin said Council looks forward to creating a refreshed and revitalised parking facility for the community and visitors.
The new car park will accommodate 61 car park bays, six motorcycle bays and 18 RV parks.
