Further input sought for CBD plan

Residents and businesses are encouraged to provide feedback next week on the CBD Masterplan that is currently being developed.

Landscape Architects Taylor Cullity Lethlean (TCL) are currently working with Council and the community to improve the amenity of the CBD using various measures such as (but not limited to) increased shade, improved wayfinding and signage, and the installation of new lighting and banner poles.

The firm met with local businesses in late 2020 to seek guidance on the plan, and will return to the city next week to again meet with businesses, along with Councillors and the general public.

Council's Acting General Manager, Jay Nankivell, said local input would be critical in ensuring the plan delivers an outcome in line with community expectations.

"We've had great feedback so far, with lighting and banner poles being an obvious focus, and requests for more shade and green spaces," he said.

"The temporary installation of a small park near the gallery proved extremely popular, so that's something that has now been incorporated in the draft plan and we could look to make permanent in future."

Businesses are invited to meet with TCL at the Aged Persons Rest Centre in Blende Street from 6.30pm on February 22, meanwhile community members can drop into the library between 10.30am and 2.30pm on February 23 to have their say on the plan.

"Hopefully we get a good attendance at both sessions, they're quite informal and a great opportunity just to have a chat with the TCL team about the plan moving forward," said Mr Nankivell.

"Members of the public who can't make the day session are also more than welcome to attend the business session at night, and vice versa."
