Through the Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative, Council is delivering programs and facilities that support people of all ages and abilities to use outdoor exercise equipment and open spaces – it's called the Free Inclusive Training (FIT) Project.
Healthy Heart of Victoria funding has already enabled Council to enhance the outdoor exercise stations in Gisborne, Romsey, Woodend and Kyneton. Additions such as water fountains, seats, bike stands, connecting paths, lighting and signs have helped make these spaces more inclusive and accessible.
From 1 March 2021, Council will be holding four weeks of FREE Inclusive Training at the outdoor fitness stations located in Gisborne, Romsey, Woodend and Kyneton.
“The free fitness classes commence Monday 1 March 2021 and will cater for all levels and abilities. There will be sessions tailored for teenagers and seniors, as well general classes for people wanting to improve physical and mental wellbeing” said Shane Walden, Director Assets & Operations.
“It’s not only an opportunity to access free fitness training from a qualified instructor, but it’s also a great way to get out and connect with other community members.”
Interested residents are encouraged to visit Council’s website for details on class times, locations, and how to book. Council’s website will soon host sample programs and videos for those who prefer to exercise at their own pace.
Classes are subject to COVID-19 restrictions. What are you waiting for? Get more active for better wellbeing in 2021. Everyone is welcome!
