Educators at the Coastal Environment Centre (CEC) are excited to have welcomed back students during the first term this year, following a long period of restrictions.

They’re sharing our Northern Beaches backyard and all that it offers for fieldtrips and excursions - and teachers are pretty happy too!

Some local high school teachers are big fans of the fieldtrips, saying:

“An excellent program. The three staff from the CEC were exceptional in their professionalism and expertise.”

“The children had their best day of the school year….with many prepared to act on their learning about sustainable energy sources.”

“After the program, the children are definitely plugging for solar panels to be placed on their family homes and the school!”

While last year was a particularly challenging one for everyone, teachers and students did a great job staying connected via new online resources, zoom meetings and incursions (visits to schools).

However, research shows fieldtrips are a more effective learning experience and a way for students to connect with the natural environment, while meeting geography and science curriculum outcomes, including understanding the impact of climate change locally.
