MAREEBA SHIRE COUNCIL PUBLIC NOTICE – DECLARATION OF LOCAL PEST – AMAZON FROGBIT
MAREEBA SHIRE COUNCIL’S LOCAL LAW NO. 3 (COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT) 2018.
In accordance with section 7 of Mareeba Shire Council’s Local Law No. 3 (Community and Environmental Management) 2018 Mareeba Shire Council resolved at its meeting on 17 February 2021 that the plant, Limnobium laevigatum, commonly known as Amazon Frogbit, be declared a local pest within Mareeba Shire.
Purpose and Scope of the Declaration
To ensure that immediate action can be taken to prevent the spread of Amazon Frogbit within the Mareeba Shire. Council’s authorised officers will investigate complaints and sightings of Amazon Frogbit on both local government-controlled areas and roads, and private property and take the required action to ensure the appropriate disposal of Amazon Frogbit. Fines may apply for the sale or supply of Amazon Frogbit, and/or for failure to comply with a direction given to you by Council’s authorised officers.
Declaration Period
The Declaration of Amazon Frogbit as a declared local pest as per Council’s Local Law No.3 (Community and Environmental Management) 2018 will be in place for a period of 3 months, commencing on 24 February 2021 and ending on 23 May 2021.
Area that the declaration applies
The declaration applies to the whole of Mareeba Shire.

The public may inspect a copy of Councils resolution at Councils office. These documents will also be available to view on Councils website www.msc.qld.gov.au.
