Toowoomba artist Aurora Elwell this week unveils her first solo exhibition with a new body of work titled Antibody at the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery.

The exhibition will be on display from Saturday, February 20 to Sunday, March 21, 2021.

Elwell said her solo exhibition playfully explored themes of being physically disrupted and hurt.

Through wheel-thrown forms and intuitive hand-building processes, Elwell reveals a ‘place’ where the physical body and subconscious mind meet.

Elwell said by calling on her experience of ‘bodily reclamation’ and referencing her own body image, she drew on the invisible and inhuman qualities of the human form.

“My unearthly adaptions of the figure are uncanny, yet familiar,” she said.

Her works involve processing memories of trauma, isolation and bodily disengagement.

Aurora Elwell lives and creates her works in the Toowoomba Region and has recently graduated from the University of Southern Queensland with a Bachelor of Creative Arts.

She will host her own ‘Meet the Artist’ day at the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery on Sunday, February 21 at 1.30pm.

Residents are invited to meet the artist and learn more about her artistic practice and work.

Bookings are essential for capacity numbers. Please RSVP by Friday, February 19 by calling 131 872 or email [email protected]
