Western Bulldog Youth Leadership Program a great opportunity for local youth

Ararat Rural City Council and Western Bulldogs Foundation are promoting the 2021 intake of the Youth Leadership Program to young people in the community.

Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison welcomed the ongoing partnership with the Western Bulldogs and the opportunities it offers young leaders in the community.

“This program gives young people of all backgrounds the chance to come together in a team environment with activities that are designed to build confidence and resilience,” Dr Harrison said.

“Many Ararat locals have joined in the past and have gone onto seize new opportunities and start rewarding careers.”

“Importantly this is free for young people, making it accessible to people of all backgrounds and situations.”

Last week, Western Bulldogs Foundation Representatives reached out to our local schools to recruit new members.

“We are looking for young people that want to work on their skills and develop as social leaders in their community,” said Hannah Singleton, Youth Development Coordinator for Western Bulldogs.

“We’re not only looking for natural leaders. Anyone who would like to improve their skills and build towards their goals is encouraged to apply.

“Participants will be emerged in a range of activities, such as practical team building challenges, mentoring from respected leaders, resilience building, and much more.”

Once in the program, young people will immediately start their development, through fortnightly sessions close to their home. Participants will also be able to attend a 2-day camp, Western Bulldogs Game Day experiences and develop social impact projects.

Amy Wood is one of the Ararat Locals who participated in the program previously and has commented on the positive influence it had on her development.

“The Western Bulldogs Leadership Program assisted me to develop important skills which have helped me start a career,” Ms Wood said.

“I found out about this program through my high school teachers and immediately knew I wanted to apply.

“I have met plenty of diverse people, made new friends and had great experiences which have helped push myself further.”

Established in 2013, anyone between the ages of 14 to 16 can apply, regardless of their situation.
