Work has started on the construction of the final stretch of the Balemo Drive shared path.
When finished there will be a 2.3km cycleway linking Billinudgel through to Ocean Shores.
Balemo Drive is a key road in the Ocean Shores area and the completion of the shared path will suit cyclists of all ages, as well as people walking, pushing prams, riding scooters and using mobility scooters.
It’s the final stretch of the path which will join the existing paths on Balemo Drive between Mundurra Avenue and Jardine Court and will connect to the existing cycleway at Brunswick Valley Way and Orana Road.
“Balemo Drive is an important link road in Ocean Shores and this shared path will allow people to travel safely and more easily in the north of the Byron Shire,” Evan Elford, Acting Director Infrastructure Services, said.
“It will link with other shared paths in Ocean Shores, as well make the Ocean Shores Shopping Centre and the newly refurbished Ocean Shores Community Centre more accessible,” Mr Elford said.
This section of the shared path will cost approximately $927,000 and is funded by the NSW Government.
“Shared paths are amazing community assets that encourage people to get out and about in their neighbourhoods and I am sure the Balemo Drive shared path will be well used,” Mr Elford said.
The path is expected to be completed by June 2021.
