The National Gallery of Australia has announced that from late February their travelling exhibit The Elaine and Jim Wolfensohn Gift exhibition is coming to our region’s libraries - Cooma, Bombala and the mobile library.

The travelling exhibition allows rural and regional communities to experience world-class art and culture in a unique and intimate way. Unlike traditional art and museum exhibitions, the Elaine and Jim Wolfensohn Gift exhibition will allow visitors to physically handle and closely examine objects in the collection.

“This travelling exhibition is a great opportunity for local residents to experience historically significant artworks,” said Mayor Peter Beer, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.

“It is often difficult for members of rural and regional communities to experience world-class museum and art exhibitions, due to the cost and time associated with travelling to major cities.”

“With this travelling exhibition from the National Gallery of Australia, Snowy Monaro residents and visitors have access to this wonderful collection in a particularly special way.”

Two of the collection’s art-filled suitcases will be exhibited for 2021. In 2019 Snowy Monaro Regional Library hosted The Blue Case: Technology. This time around the region will be hosting the Red Case: Myths and Rituals and the Yellow Case: Form, Space, Design.

The Gift will be on exhibition at Cooma Library from 22 February -- 6 March, Mobile Library 9 March – 19 March, and Bombala Library 23 March – 1 April.
