A Hoppers Crossing soccer pitch is officially lit.
Four lighting poles have been installed at the Grange Reserve pitch 1, which will allow teams like the Hoppers Crossing Soccer Club to use the ground for training and games at night.
Wyndham City Active City portfolio holder, Peter Maynard, said the lighting poles were fitted with LED lighting, which is better for the environment and helps to keep operating costs down.
“Wyndham’s growing population has resulted in corresponding membership boosts across organised sport, including soccer, in recent years,” Cr Maynard said.
“Lighting up this sporting reserve will help to meet this increased demand.”
Cr Maynard said the new lights complemented a $3.75 million Wyndham City redevelopment of the Grange Community Centre and two adjoining sports fields.
“While Council funded the business case for this lighting project, I want to thank the State Government for funding its construction through a $300,000 Local Sports Grant,” Cr Maynard said.
“I’d also like to thank the Hoppers Crossing Soccer Club, who lobbied the State Government for sports lighting at this pitch.”
