In December 2020, WaterNSW undertook the urgent relocation of Fish River water mains adjacent to Barton Avenue, Wallerawang. This work was completed in order to better ensure supply resilience and asset serviceability.
“Lithgow City Council is appreciative of WaterNSW in addressing the urgent service issues pertaining to their length of main adjacent to Barton Avenue and Cripps Avenue, Wallerawang”, said Lithgow City Council’s Mayor, Councilor Ray Thompson. “However, this work came at the cost of a section of footpath linking the residential area of Wallerawang to their local amenities such as the Post Office, doctor’s clinic, hairdresser, bakery and convenience store. Months have now passed and we continue to eagerly wait for its replacement.”
“This is not just an amenity issue,” noted Mayor Thompson. “This footpath is a piece of critical local infrastructure which connects our community to the services they need. Council worked with WaterNSW to install the new pipeline over Council’s rail over bridge, its time they afforded us the same level of priority and on behalf of our residents, replaced this section of footpath without further delay.”
WaterNSW have confirmed that their contractors will commence repair work on Monday 8 March 2021. Council will continue to pursue this matter, advocating on behalf of its residents, ensuring that work is completed promptly and to an acceptable standard.
