Kerang CBD Redevelopment design released

Increased outdoor seating settings and extra trees will feature in the redevelopment of the Kerang central business district.

Developed following discussions with the community in September 2020, the Kerang CBD Redevelopment – Stage 2 will provide a link between the Kerang Railway Station, the Victoria Square precinct and the Kerang Open Space Precinct.

“Business owners and visitors have benefited from the award-winning Victoria Square redevelopment, which has inspired the design for these improvements along Scoresby Street between Fitzroy and Victoria streets,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Once completed, this redevelopment will provide spaces where residents and visitors can socialise and explore what Kerang has to offer.”

Key features of the design include the planting of extra trees along Scoresby Street, providing extra shade for pedestrians, with bench seating to be installed on either side of the road and on the eastern section of the Scoresby-Victoria street roundabout.

Following community feedback and the popularity of outdoor dining in the past six months, dedicated outdoor seating areas will be located outside the Royal Hotel and Gray’s Bakery, with both sites to feature one wheelchair accessible table setting.

“Council looks forward to commencing these works later this year, which will tie in with improvements currently occurring along Scoresby Street between Albert and Boundary streets,” Mr O’Reilly said.

The $1.317 million Kerang CBD Redevelopment – Stage 2 is funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
