Gannawarra Shire Council thanks residents who provided feedback during the recent Cohuna Waterfront Connection Project feedback, with all input to assist with the development of the project’s concept plan, which will soon begin.
Over a seven week period, residents were encouraged to provide feedback on potential opportunities for the project and generate ideas to inform the future development of a concept design, which aims to connect the Cohuna central business district to Gunbower Creek and works currently underway at Apex Park.
“This process, which was available to view on Council’s website and published in the January/February 2021 edition of Gannawarra Connect, generated major discussion on the Have Your Say section of Council’s website, with close to 30 responses posted,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“In late 2020 Council engaged with local community groups to see what features they would like included in the project, and this more recent process was based on building additional ideas for inclusion in a draft concept design.”
Feedback received emphasised the importance of keeping open space within Garden Park, as well as increasing picnic seating throughout the precinct.
Other ideas raised included improving walking tracks throughout the precinct, increasing shaded areas and relocating the electricity lines along King George Street underground.
“Council looks forward to using all feedback received to assist with the development of the concept design, which residents will be able to provide feedback on via an extensive community engagement process at a later date,” Mr O’Reilly said.
The Cohuna Waterfront Connection Project, part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Connections project, is supported by the State Government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package.
