Restocker heifers to 565.2c/kg at Blackall weaner ...

Strong competition from a full panel of southern Queensland, local and interstate buyers were active at the first Blackall weaner sale for 2021, creating strong competition.

Compared to the February 11 opening sale for the year, there was a lift in prices across most categories for the 3800 head yarded.

Most cattle were sourced from local areas alongside one large consignment from the north west of the state.

Overall quality was very good with large single vendor-bred lines of light weight steers and heifers on offer.

The highlight of the day was a large run of restocker heifers 200 to 280kg selling to 565.2c/kg. A charity bull sold to 322.2c/kg.

The yarding was drawn from Blackall, Jericho, Isisford, Barcaldine, Alpha, Richmond, Jundah, Boulia, Ilfracombe and Longreach.

B & K Hayman, Tiree, Blackall, sold quality Santa-cross weaner heifers topping at 438.2c/kg to weigh 342kg to return $1500.

Toby Langdon, Tiree, Blackall sold a heavy cow to 294.2c/kg weighing 720kg to return $2118.

Marion Langdon, Tiree, Blackall sold heavy cows to 294.2c/kg weighing 585kg to return $1721.

BJ and JM O'Dell, Toarbee, Jericho sold a magnificent run of Charolais cross steers and heifers. Their steers topped at 540c/kg weighing 285 kg to return $1539. Their heifers topped at 536c/kg weighing 192 kg to return $1034 per head.

MHG and JJ O'Dell, Colorado, Jericho sold very good quality Charolais steers to a top of 464c/kg weighing 364 kg to return $1692 per head.
