The Rivershed Deck, Howard Smith Wharves Thursday, April 15, 2021, 3:30 – 5:30pm As part of Brisbane City’s Outdoor Gallery exhibition Sunny Side Up you are invited to join us for a plein air artist workshop with Holly Anderson. Join artist Holly Anderson on a roaming plein air drawing class through Howard Smith Wharves, guiding participants in how to think about and capture the fleeting and indescribable forces at play around us: the shimmer of sun hitting water, the heat rising off bitumen, a breeze whistling through leaves, the ‘floaters’ that slide around our retinas. This experimental drawing class will open up to space to see and contemplate the invisible and atmospheric changes that happen around us every day while learning practical drawing skills. This program is delivered in partnership with Howard Smith Wharves. Biography: Holly Anderson’s paintings investigate the turbulent bodily and psychic sensations of a climate-anxious era. Under a white-hot Queensland sun, her subjects are over overexposed. Subjects familiar to Australian painting often appear, charging beach bodies, idyllic landscapes and coastlines with an apocalyptic energy. Anderson has exhibited across Australia and internationally including at Outer Space, Third Quarter Gallery and Innerspace Contemporary Art. Sunny Side Up is a collection of vibrant artworks by emerging Brisbane-based contemporary artists that explore Brisbane’s subtropical identity, unique physical features and cultural atmosphere. The exhibition brings to the fore the optimism, abundance, and playful spirit of the Sunshine State. Brisbane City Council’s Outdoor Gallery transforms Brisbane’s laneways and city streets into imaginary, curious and engaging spaces. Comprising light boxes, banners, vitrines and evening projections, the Outdoor Gallery displays art outside in city street, instead of inside on gallery walls. Recently, the Outdoor Gallery has grown to now include art projections at Howard Smith Wharves. This project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
