A successful free microchipping program is set to be rolled out to Isaac coastal residents through a voucher system.

A successful free microchipping program is set to be rolled out to Isaac coastal residents through a voucher system.

The Chip N Check program is now open to residents for eligible dog owners who live in Carmila, Clairview, Flaggy Rock, St Lawrence, Notch Point, Greenhill and Ilbilbie areas.

The program is part of the Paws-itive Blueprint for Responsible Dog Ownership to help educate dog owners in meeting their obligations.

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the Chip N Check program has been a success across the region.

“We’re extremely excited in ensuring this program is available for our Isaac Coastal residents where they can have their pet chipped by visiting a supporting veterinary practice in Sarina or Rockhampton,” she said.

“I would like to extend a congratulations our local Moranbah and Clermont vets who were part of our summer rollout and for those who took advantage of this free initiative – you’re well on your way to be responsible pet owners.

“Overall, 49 dogs were microchipped, and 65 dog registrations were issued across the five clinics that took place between at Clermont, Middlemount, Dysart, Nebo and Moranbah.”

“It also means there are further 65 dogs in the community that can be returned home if found wandering through identification via microchip and dog registration if necessary.”

A microchip stores the pet’s unique identification number, which is linked to a microchip database registry which includes important information about the pet’s breed and owner’s contact details.

In Queensland all dogs from 12 weeks of age are required to be microchipped. It is compulsory for dogs to be registered in Queensland under the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.

Dogs that are not yet registered with Council can be registered for free for the current registration period as part of our Chip N Check initiative.

Register for your voucher online at https://speakup.isaac.qld.gov.au or by calling into our local Council office at St Lawrence or one of our Isaac Libraries. Or best yet, call 1300 ISAACS, that’s 1300 472 227.

This is open to Isaac region residents who live on the Isaac coast only and the vouchers are valid for use until COB Wednesday June 30, 2021.
