Saturday 13 March 2021   Advertisements BIMBI FLOOD STUDY COMMUNITY CONSULTATION SESSION

Residents in the Bimbi area are advised that HydroSpatial Pty Ltd, on behalf of Weddin Shire Council are holding a community consultation session at the Bimbi Rural Fire Services (RFS) Shed located at the Cnr of Caldwell and Young Streets, Bimbi on Tuesday 16 March 2021 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.

At this stage of the Flood Study, HydroSpatial have established computational models of the local Bimbi area and have modelled historical flood events to compare against the historical flood photographs and data that has been collected. The community consultation session will provide a forum for discussion on the work that has been done to date and an opportunity for feedback regarding the results of the computational modelling. Interested residents are also asked to come forward with flood mitigation measures that they would like to see investigated in the next stage of the Study, examples of which could be flood detention basins, stormwater drainage improvements, voluntary house raising, evacuation route improvements, localised flood warning systems.

BREASTSCREEN VAN VISIT TO GRENFELL

Residents are hereby advised that the mobile BreastScreen NSW van will be stationed in front of Vaughn Park on Melyra Street, Grenfell from 23 March 2021 until 15 April 2021 and women of the Weddin Shire are encouraged to book a free mammogram.

Western NSW Local Health District advises that breast screening every two years is incredibly important for women aged 50 – 74 for the following reasons: -

breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in NSW 1 in 7 women in NSW will be diagnosed with breast cancer by age 85 9 out of 10 women diagnosed with breast cancer do not have a family history a mammogram can pick up cancers that cannot be seen or felt a mammogram every two years takes just 20 minutes and it could save your life

WEDDIN LANDCARE SMALL ENVIRONMENTAL GRANTS 2021

Weddin Landcare have developed a special round of their Small Environmental Grants which will focus on addressing and preventing wind and water erosion in 2021 in order to assist land managers be better prepared for the next drought.

Individuals, farming businesses and not-for-profit community groups who manage land within the Weddin Landcare District are encouraged to apply for funding that will cover 50% of the total cost of a project, to a maximum of $4,000. Possible projects may include: -

Groundcover establishment/management establishment or enhancement of windbreaks establishment of a drought lot streambank or head cut protection/stabilisation approved grazing or holistic management training

WOMEN IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT FORUMS

Residents are advised that the Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA) NSW Branch will be holding a number of Forums around the state to encourage women to stand for Local Government elections in 2021.

ALGWA has developed a presentation that promotes gender equity in Local Government and provides useful information for women interested in standing for council in September 2021. The ALGWA NSW Executive members will also share their knowledge and experience as well as conducting a Q&A session to support women attendees.

A free Forum will be held in Parkes this Sunday 14 March 2021 from 9am until 12pm. Alternate sessions are also available, including some that offer a virtual-hybrid Zoom attendance option.

DRAFT POLICY AND PROCEDURES FOR CCTV IN PUBLIC PLACES

Notice is hereby given of Council’s intention to adopt its Policy and Procedures for Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in Public Places.

The draft Policy and Procedures are currently on display for comment and can be viewed on Council's Public Exhibition webpage.
