MobileMuster is a mobile phone recycling program that Council has been involved with for many years. Council wishes to congratulate residents on recycling 13 kilograms of mobile phone waste in 2020.
MobileMuster provides a free, safe and secure recycling service. Everything collected is recycled for resource recovery to the highest environmental standards. Nothing is resold for reuse and any data left on handsets is destroyed in the recycling process.
MobileMuster estimates that there are 5 million mobile phones and accessories that are broken and no longer working in our homes. Collectively, we don’t want these old phones going to waste. On average, each household has at least one phone that is broken and four more that are no longer being used.
The Council is encouraging local residents to join MobileMuster’s nationwide challenge to “Go for Zero” in March 2021. However, Council has this form of recycling available all year round.
Mobiles phones can be recycled at the following places:-
Lithgow, Wallerawang and Portland Libraries; Lithgow Council Customer Service Centre; and Lithgow Solid Waste Facility Weighbridge Office.“Residents are congratulated on their efforts and urged to take advantage of this program and recycle their unwanted mobile phones and stop this waste entering landfill.” Mayor of Lithgow, Councillor Ray Thompson said.
