East Beaumaris Kindergarten at 60 Wells Road, Beaumaris was awarded $12,500 towards the installation of solar panels through the Federal Government’s Community Energy Efficiency and Solar Grants 2020.
The grant application was supported by Council and was 1 of only 2 grants awarded in the Goldstein electorate. Council also supported installation of the panels and contributed funds for the project.
The 20 panel, 6.6 kilowatt solar electricity system installed using the grant funds will reduce electricity costs for the kindergarten by up to 50%. The systems will produce approximately 5000KWh each year and reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by 5.3 tonnes of CO2e- per year.
This project will reduce energy costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and provide greater renewable energy generation, enhancing the kindergarten’s capacity to deliver meaningful programs and education for children.
President of the East Beaumaris Kindergarten, Joanna Jarek, said
“The Community Energy Efficiency and Solar Grants 2020 has been very helpful in assisting the East Beaumaris Kindergarten in improving its environmental impact. The Kindergarten is excited about the benefits solar will provide and is grateful for Council’s support in securing the grant.”
