The annual Hanging Rock Reserve screening of Peter Weir’s iconic film Picnic at Hanging Rock is back on after being postponed due to February’s circuit-breaker lockdown.
“Rescheduled for Saturday 27 March, this year’s screening will be held in the Hanging Rock East Paddock, offering a different view of the rock as the sun goes down,” said Angela Hughes, Director Planning and Environment.
“Guests are encouraged to embrace the theme by packing a picnic and dressing up as their favourite Picnic at Hanging Rock character.”
Picnic-goers will also be able to watch from the comfort of their car, similar to a drive-in cinema experience, if the weather is not ideal.
Local winery Parkside Winery Estate is getting into the picnic spirit and will offering tastings and sales prior to the movie screening.
Picnic at Hanging Rock was filmed in 1975 and is based on the 1967 novel by Joan Lindsay. It is the story of three school girls and a teacher who go missing there on Valentine’s Day in 1900.
Tickets are $25 adult, $10 children and $60 for a family and must be pre-purchased online by 2pm on Friday 26 March.
Gates will open at 7pm, with the film beginning around 8:15pm.
Patrons are advised to bring along a jacket or jumper, warm blankets, and something to sit on such as a deck chair or blanket as seats will not be provided. Picnic dinners are also welcome.
