Mayor Williams seeks Canberra support for priority projects
Redland City Council 12 Mar 2021

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams will take a list of projects to Canberra next week in the hope of securing support from the Federal Government.

Cr Williams said key amongst the projects will be critical transport infrastructure.

“As part of the Council of Mayors delegation we will continue to lobby for the projects needed across South East Queensland,” she said.

“For more than five years we have been trying to secure a city deal with the State and Federal governments to help deliver this infrastructure and continuing these negotiations will be a focus of this trip.

“Our communities have told us they want long-term certainty when it comes to infrastructure and a city deal provides the commitment and collaboration of three levels of government to deliver that certainty.”

Cr Williams said she had also arranged a series of meetings on local projects while in the nation’s capital.

“Sport and recreation projects will be high on the agenda to try and secure Federal funding for some exciting projects for local families,” Cr Williams said.

“Our role as a hydrogen powerhouse will also be on the agenda as I try and secure support from the Federal Government for our highly anticipated waste water to energy facility.

“With a federal election approaching the time is right to put Redlands Coast on the Canberra radar to ensure we get the support we need.”
