Council has regrettably made the decision not to hold its annual Easter event ‘Kids in the Park’ for the second year running due to the ongoing health risk.
Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said “This event is traditionally held on Easter Sunday in the Burnie Park, I understand this news will be very disappointing for the community, however we have determined that it is neither safe nor practical in the current environment to hold the event.
“One of the best things about ‘Kids in the Park’ is the opportunity for children to engage in a range of very hands on activities, however due to the pandemic situation it would be very difficult to control hygiene and sanitizing in most of the ‘Kids in the Park’ activities. Other COVID Safe requirements such as recording attendance would be very difficult to enforce at an event such as ‘Kids in the Park’ due to the multiple entry points at the Burnie Park.
“We understand that this is very disappointing news for the many people involved in these community events including volunteers, but also that everyone understands the safety and well-being of everyone in our community must take priority at this time.”
