Snowy Monaro Regional Council has organised a community meeting next week to discuss informal camping issues in and around Jindabyne. A panel of key local community and business representatives has been organised for this Council facilitated forum.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday 23 March 2021 at the Jindabyne Bowling Club from 6pm to 7.30pm, discussing not only informal camping, but the current pressures on local accommodation and accommodation providers, seasonal staff accommodation, winter demand, market pressures and other related housing issues to get the full picture.
“Every winter the population of our region swells to many times its normal size and this can cause a whole host of problems for our residents,” said Mayor Peter Beer, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.
“Informal camping in Jindabyne and surrounds can have a negative effect on our residents and amenity of our towns and villages. While tourism is absolutely crucial to our region’s economic prosperity, it is equally as important that we ensure the safety and wellbeing of the people that call these places home, be it year-round or seasonal.”
Council encourages all residents to attend the meeting. Community input will ensure that any proposed solutions are the options best-suited for the affected towns and villages.
