Corangamite Shire will deliver more training sessions aimed at increasing skills and job opportunities for residents, after some of the first sessions booked out.
The first three Upskilling Corangamite sessions include CPR training (HLTAID001), Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and an Artisan Business Development workshop.
Participants only need to attend one three hour CPR session either Monday 15 or Tuesday 16 March from 5:30 pm to 8 pm at Port Campbell Surf Lifesaving Club. Spots are still available.
The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course will be held Monday 22 March from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Timboon Distillery. This course is already booked out.
The Artisan Business Development workshop will be held Saturday 27 March from 10 am to 2 pm at Timboon Fine Ice Cream. The four hour workshop is hosted by Timboon Fine Ice Cream’s Tim Marwood and focuses on developing business ideas and skills. Participants will also get to make their own sundae.
Corangamite Shire Manager Growth and Engagement Rory Neeson said there had been a great response to the first sessions.
“The RSA course in Timboon booked out quickly and there is a lot of interest in the CPR sessions,” Mr Neeson said.
“We will look at holding more RSA courses across the shire and have several more in the planning stages, including premium coffee making with Piccolo Coffee Roasters, social media marketing with local business owner Kate Kent, and a TAFE agricultural course.”
Mr Neeson said the mix of formal and informal training sessions is designed to help residents upskill, find jobs or volunteer in the region.
“RSA and CPR participants will be issued an approved certificate which is often required by workplaces or volunteer organisations,” he said.
Mayor Ruth Gstrein said the sessions were delivered as part of Corangamite Shire’s COVID Recovery Program.
“We were looking at the best ways to help our communities build capacity and recover from COVID,” Cr Gstrein said.
“These sessions provide practical and relevant training that will benefit residents, businesses and our communities,” she added.
