On Wednesday 17 March, 14 Huon Valley residents were welcomed into Australian citizenship at a joyful ceremony held at the Huonville Town Hall.

“Our new citizens come from ten different countries around the world, including Sweden, the United States, England, Scotland, Thailand, Vietnam, Slovakia, Brazil, the Philippines and South Africa,” said Huon Valley Mayor Bec Enders.

Cr Enders was joined by General Manager Emilio Reale and Huon Valley Councillors at the ceremony, along with friends and family of the conferees, with everyone joining together to proudly support and congratulate the conferees on this significant day.

“Today’s citizenship ceremony, as with all citizenship ceremonies we have the privilege to undertake each year, was a celebration and example of the strong community spirit that we see every day in the Huon Valley,” said Cr Enders.

“I am proud to say that in the Huon Valley we always look after each other – particularly when times are tough – accept one another, and welcome new residents with arms wide open.

“On behalf of our community, I give my warmest welcome to our newest citizens.

“By choosing to call the Huon Valley your home, you are helping make our community the vibrant, healthy, resilient, and culturally rich place for which we are known.

“Thank you for choosing to call the Huon Valley your home and making the commitment to the Australian values we all embrace, enjoy, and uphold.”
