Traffic changes at Hazelbrook Village shops
Blue Mountains 18 Mar 2021

The upgrade of the car park at Hazelbrook Village, to improve traffic flow and increase safety, is almost complete.

The upgrade is the first stage of changes outlined in Hazelbrook Village Masterplan, endorsed in 2018. Future stages are yet to be scoped and designed.

“I thank the community for their patience while these works have progressed in February and March,” Mayor Mark Greenhill said. “I also thank those who have continued to be patient while regular users become accustomed to the changes that have been put in place this month.

“Any change in traffic conditions takes some time to get used to. Ultimately these works have been conducted to improve safety for both pedestrians and drivers in the area.”

The changes, endorsed by local businesses and community representatives during consultation conducted since 2018 as well as by Transport by NSW and Police, include:

Pedestrian refuges and ‘shared zones’. New line markings for carpark spaces so they are now wider, and in line with Australian standards.  New line markings at all entrances and exits to the car park (at the Great Western Highway, at the lower car park and at Rosedale Avenue).  A new loading zone at the entrance to the car park, from the highway, for improved access/delivery for local business.

Traffic now runs one way from the highway and exits at the north of the car park. Here vehicles can turn right at Stuart Place, then left or right into Rosedale Avenue. Stuart Place is now one way.

All signage at the car park has been installed, and reviewed, after Council received feedback from community about the changes. There is also temporary signage alerting residents to the new traffic conditions now in place, to ensure there is no confusion about the changes.

Signage at the intersection of Stuart Place and Rosedale Avenue – to be installed this month – will direct vehicles (either eastbound to Sydney, or westbound to Katoomba/Lithgow).  “The changes to Hazelbrook car park will improve traffic flow and they will improve safety for pedestrians,” Mayor Greenhill said.
