Want to learn more about how you can help bring neighbours together and build community connections?
You’re invited to come along to one of our local Let’s Get Neighbourly workshops and learn all the skills for building social connections and community spirit in Maroondah.
Maroondah City Council has partnered with Neighbourhood Connect to deliver a series of free workshops, inspiring people to become ‘community connectors’ in their neighbourhoods.
Deputy Mayor Cr Nora Lamont encouraged residents to attend one of the workshops as a great way to get to know their neighbours and strengthen the sense of community Maroondah is known for.
“We know that people who connect and bond with their neighbours experience a greater sense of belonging,” Cr Lamont said.
“Become a community connector in your street and discover how expanding local social connections can enrich community life. Participants will also learn the positive effect social connections can have in reducing loneliness, isolation and how it can improve mental wellbeing,” she said.
By attending our workshops, you will be given the skills and tools to create your own neighbourhood group, as well as receiving one-on-one mentoring support.
“This program provides residents with an opportunity to make a difference. Help your neighbours make new friends and feel like they belong through simple activities you will learn during our workshops,” Cr Lamont added.
Part of the Be Kind Maroondah campaign, the workshops are being provided by Neighbourhood Connect in partnership with Council and Yarrunga Community Centre, Central Ringwood Community Centre and Arrabri Community House.
“Also, don’t forget Neighbour Day 2021 is on Sunday 28 March, providing all of us with an opportunity to recognise the strength we draw from our communities, and to continue to build creative connections within neighbourhoods and wider communities,” Cr Lamont said.
