The Shire of York has begun the process of developing a Public Health Plan. Community consultation will soon commence aimed at identifying challenges and strategies to providing healthier lifestyle opportunities and environments for residents.
A Public Health Plan provides a framework to maximise community health and wellbeing, and we need your input to this plan.
During the consultation period, we will gather local information that will make sure the Plan supports and encourages a healthy community, assists people to live healthier lifestyles, be physically active and feel more socially engaged. The Plan will be most beneficial if it is supported by everyone in the community, with individuals, groups and support agencies working together to influence the health and wellbeing of our whole community.
CEO Chris Linnell said “All local governments must develop a Public Health Plan that accurately reflects their individual community circumstances. York has some challenges due to distance and access to services, however we have an abundance of public open space that encourages us to lead a more active lifestyle. We are asking the community to engage with us during the consultation period to help identify opportunities for improved long-term health outcomes for all”.
Invitations for community input will be promoted through local media including Community Matters and Voice of the Avon Radio, direct to community groups and via notices placed on town notice boards and the Shire’s offices, website and Facebook page.
Anyone seeking further information should contact George Johnson, Environmental Health Officer at the Shire by email to [email protected] or by phoning 9641 0500.
