With a clear message 48 enthusiastic volunteers and community members were all hands on gathering for this year's Clean Up Australia Day held at Newtown Dam on Sunday, 7 March 2021.
To keep Kambalda beautiful, clear our bushland from litter and illegal dumping and to set good examples for the younger generation, was the intention of the well attended community event. The clean up saw the little helpers especially enjoying their time jumping in the mud before it was time to roll up the sleeves and start the 2 hour long clean-up followed by a sausage sizzle cooked to perfection by the Kambalda Volunteer Fire & Rescue Services.
The Kambalda Community Resource Centre was proud to be able to support Kambalda West Playgroup Inc. by providing supplies and assisting with the running of the event on the day for the second year in a row. St. John Ambulance officers from the Kambalda Sub Centre were also on site to assist with any incidents or injuries occurring. All up close to 40 rubbish bags were filled with a number of larger objects found, including a car engine and battery, a washing machine and camping equipment.
All rubbish excluding the large amount of recyclable cans and plastic bottles yet to be taken to the local Containers for Change drop off point has now been collected and taken to the Kambalda Waste Facility by the Shire of Coolgardie Parks and Garden team.
Next time you are at BP Dam or any other location in our Shire do not hesitate to report any illegal littering via the Snap Send Solve app.
The Shire of Coolgardie wishes to express it's sincerest gratitude to all our helpers who came to suport the event and is already excited to plan the next one.
