Council resolved to reconsider the proposed E3 zoning changes in the Draft Rural Land Use Strategy at the regular meeting of Snowy Monaro Regional Council last week in Cooma.

Councillors spoke passionately about the importance of listening to the community and of the overwhelming community response to the draft. Councillors voted to remove the changes to E3 from the draft strategy and to reconsider the minimum lot sizes for dwellings.

“This has been one the most contentious, but ultimately successful public consultation periods our Council has ever engaged in. We have listened to the resounding voice of the community and will continue to work through this process,” said Mayor Peter Beer.

Key resolutions of the Council on the Draft Rural Land Use Strategy at the meeting were:

•Send consultation report to all who provided feedback

•Publish anonymised versions of all written submissions

•Establish working group consisting of Councillors, Council staff, with the option for community members to be invited to attend. The working group will aim to: oReview and progress land use planning, zoning and methodologies oReview minimum lot sizes oReview the relationship between the Draft Rural Land Use Strategy and Settlement Strategy

•Consult and work with individual landowners on the revised approach to the E3

•When developed, the strategies will be on exhibition for 56 days further feedback

Work will now begin on the revised plan incorporating these resolutions of Council.
