Local artists and community groups who have a story to tell are invited to join a collaborative community arts project.
As part of VicHealth’s Everyday Creativity Program, Baw Baw Shire Council and Arts and Health Gippsland are coordinating the Live – Well, Come – Share (Stories) project.
As part of the project, 10 small scale art projects will be delivered with mentoring from local artist Bec Vandyk, Director Arts and Health Gippsland, and Council’s Arts and Culture team.
Through the project, local community groups will have the opportunity to work alongside an artist to share the stories behind their group and develop artwork throughout the process.
Each project will be documented in small films that will be shared online and via projections in community spaces throughout the region.
The project will be delivered by Council and Arts and Health Gippsland in partnership with Baw Baw Arts Alliance, Latrobe Community Health Service and West Gippsland Libraries.
The Everyday Creativity grants program is designed to promote health and wellbeing at a local level through participation in arts and culture. Live – Well, Come – Share (Stories) is one of seven unique projects being delivered across Victoria as part of the program.
Interested community groups and artists are encouraged to contact: Karen Whitaker-Taylor [email protected] or Bec Vandyk [email protected]
Quotes attributable to Mayor Cr Danny Goss“This is a unique opportunity for our local community groups to get their important stories and experiences turned into art. Most importantly, this project will create more opportunities for our community to connect and be creative – both of which directly contribute to wellbeing.”
Quotes attributable to Arts and Culture Advisory Committee Member and Deputy Mayor Cr Michael Leaney“Council is grateful for the support of VicHealth and our partner organisations to make this project possible. This opportunity to open to communities across Baw Baw Shire and will be tailored to suit the needs of each group.”
Quotes attributable to Arts and Culture Advisory Committee Member Cr Annemarie McCabe“I encourage our local community groups to be part of this project and explore new ways to share their stories. After a challenging time in 2020, this is a fantastic way to reconnect within your community and learn new things.”
Quotes attributable to Bec Vandyk, Director of Art and Health Gippsland“I'm sure there are many stories just waiting to be told in the Baw Baw region. Perhaps there's a group in the community that meet regularly and have a laugh, or even some who meet and get really cross about something - what are their stories? In telling the stories that make us laugh or get frustrated, we share our humanity. We hear the voices of our own lives. Community groups don't need to be artists to participate in this art project - just willing to explore some creative ways to tell the great tales of life.”
