Level 2 water restrictions for the village of Bredbo commencing 12.01am Friday 26 March 2021.

Water carting resumed this week for Bredbo due to the water in the bores, which normally supply Bredbo, failing to improve in quality after recent rainfall caused minor flooding of the Murrumbidgee River.

To ensure the usage of the carted water is minimised, Council now needs to place Bredbo on Level 2 water restrictions this week, commencing Friday 26 March 2021.

These restrictions will help ensure the carted water will meet Bredbo’s water demand through this period. Council is carting enough water for residents to undertake normal indoor water use: drinking, cleaning, washing, and bathing. All outdoor water use should be minimised. If water usage increases to the point where water carting cannot keep up with demand, higher levels of water restrictions may be implemented.

Council encourages residents to minimise their water use through the following: •reduce watering of gardens to a minimum •no watering of lawns •keep showers under five minutes •turn taps off while brushing teeth •fix leaking taps and toilets •run washing machines and dishwashers only when full

If water turbidity levels return to normal prior to Friday 26 March 2021, pumping from the bores will resume and water restrictions will not be required. Further advice will be provided.

Official note: Residents in Bredbo are advised that as of 12:01am , 26 March 2021, Level 2 water restrictions are in place until further notice. Council will make all reasonable efforts to make residents aware of water restrictions before issuing any penalties. To apply for an exemption please email [email protected]

Council is progressing the geotechnical investigations of the current bores to determine if any short-term remedial works can be undertaken. Council is also addressing Bredbo’s future water security through the Five Villages scoping study.
