Have your say on Timboon Transfer Station expansion

Timboon district residents are invited to have their say on a redesign of the town’s transfer station.

South-West Ward Councillor Kate Makin encouraged residents to look at the plans and have their say about how Council’s services meet their needs.

“Residents are invited to come along to the drop-in session, or download the designs and leave comments on our website,” Cr Makin said.

“The Timboon site has an opportunity to be re-designed so we can provide quality waste and recycling services for the future.

“The State Government under the new Waste Act is setting up a waste authority to oversee the industry as well as other changes including mandating glass separation from recycling.

“Council will work with the new authority to meet standards and cut the amount of waste going into landfill.

“Improving the layout and capacity of the Timboon facility is an important part of achieving those goals.”

Corangamite Shire Environmental Projects Coordinator Anthony Dufty said there were four options for altering the layout to improve the user experience and increased sorting options.

“The changes will ensure we meet new requirements under the Waste and Recycling Act,” he said.

“We also need to meet other statutory planning and EPA requirements.”

“In addition, there are many materials that could be sorted and potentially re-cycled.

“Council is seeking feedback from the community on which items it has trouble recycling or if there are recyclables our local community could use.”

Mr Dufty said a drop-in session would be held on Main Street Timboon on Tuesday 30 March from 11 am-2 pm.

“We invite everyone to come along so we can listen to their ideas, answer their questions, and discuss the four layout plans.”

The plans can also be viewed and comments submitted here before 5pm Wednesday 31 March.
