Music back in big way
City of Wodonga 24 Mar 2021

Double bass guitarist Tony Smith can’t wait to play for a live audience once again when the sound of the I.G. Big Band fills The Cube Wodonga on Sunday.

It has been a long time between live performances after COVID-19 saw last year’s big swing concert postponed.

“It’s been a frustrating year not being able to play live, especially concerts of this size,” Mr Smith said.

“You can’t beat the atmosphere of a live show, we are quite excited.”

The 20-piece band is made up of a selection of local and imported musicians and vocalists, led by the highly experienced swing veteran Ivan Gellie.

Fans will hear works by the likes of Michael Bublé, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior for more than two-and-a-half hours.

Mr Smith encouraged people to come along and have a dance in their seat.

“We are going to do golden oldies - things like Fever, Big Suspender, Somewhere Over the Rainbow … you will know all the songs,” Mr Smith said.

“There’s so many people coming from all over the place, including Melbourne, to entertain you.”

This will be the eighth year that the band have played together at The Cube.

The March 28 concert is a show for the whole family.
