First Nations creatives are being invited to express their interest in assisting with this year’s NAIDOC Week events in July.

Council is looking for artists, dancers, musicians and other creatives who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander to be part of the arts and cultural event delivery and activities across the Isaac region.

The events and activities are designed to engage and educate while celebrating the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing cultures on the planet.

Mayor Anne Baker said recognising and celebrating the diversity across the Isaac region is an important part of the region’s history.

“This is a great opportunity for community to come together and celebrate the diverse cultures in our region,” Mayor Baker said

“With your help, we can all work together to plan, organise and deliver a schedule of events across Isaac.

“Interested groups and individuals can get involved by providing art works for an exhibition in our galleries, perform at the NAIDOC events or visit Isaac’s network of small schools and run art, creative or cultural skills workshops with students.”

This project is supported by Isaac’s Regional Arts Development Fund.  The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

NAIDOC Week this year will be held from Sunday 4 July to Sunday 11 July with the theme of Heal Country!
