The annual Navy Indigenous Development Program Graduation Parade will be staged at Munro Martin Parklands on 24 June.
The Navy Indigenous Development Program (NIDP) is aligned to the Commonwealth Governments’ Closing The Gap strategy and has been running in Cairns since 2014.
Since inception, the NIDP has produced 216 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates, some of whom have continue a career in the Navy and others have gained civilian work within the community or with local, state or federal government agencies.
The NIDP Graduation Parade is usually held at HMAS Cairns twice a year, but there is limited attendance as the venue is not open to the general public.
Holding the graduation at MMP will allow greater attendance and raise community awareness of the program.
