Construction of an off-road path from Yorkeys Knob to the Cattana Wetlands roundabout has been given the green light.
Council has endorsed the $1.64 million final stage of the Dunne Road Northern Beaches Leisure Trail project, which once completed will provide cyclists and pedestrians a dedicated, three-metre wide path from Yorkeys Knob to Smithfield.
The project is also estimated to support 11 fulltime, direct and indirect jobs in the local economy.
The Yorkeys Knob to Smithfield connection has been identified as the highest priority in the Principal Cycle Network Plan for FNQ and identified in Council’s Active Travel Strategy.
There have also been numerous requests from the community to provide a safe link for students to attend the local schools, university and shopping centre at Smithfield.
The project has been provided $1 million in funding by the State Government under the 2018/19 Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.
