The Shire of Augusta Margaret River’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) are getting set to celebrate Youth Week with the Youth Week Festival on Friday 16 April from 3pm to 6pm at the Margaret River Youth Precinct.
The interactive festival for young people of all ages will include art activities, a sausage sizzle, performances by local young artists and stalls including Radio Margaret River and Headspace.
Radio Margaret River will be airing a specialised youth playlist created by young people throughout the afternoon and Headspace will be running activities promoting mental health and wellbeing.
Local artist Kaiman will be running an art workshop during which participants will brainstorm the mural that is planned to be painted across the front of the Zone Room in the coming months. While being held during the Youth Week Festival, the workshop is also part of the newly created RISE program, which aims to give young people the skills and confidence to turn their passions into dream careers.
Shire of Augusta Margaret River Coordinator Community Planning and Development Jason Cleary said the Youth Week Festival is organised by youth for youth.
“YAC is excited for the festival as it’s their first event of the year,” he said.
“Please come on down and join in this fun and free event. It’s a great opportunity for young people to come together, celebrate all their talents, learn new skills, and find out about services and opportunities available to them right here in our local Shire.”
The accessible and inclusive event is supported by the Department of Communities and will be held at the Margaret River Youth Precinct, 31 Wallcliffe Road, Margaret River.
