More than thirty schools across the Northern Beaches will benefit from improved pedestrian infrastructure and safety thanks to $8.57 million in funding to be rolled out over the next 18 months.
Council was successful in securing the funding from the Commonwealth government’s Federal Stimulus - School Infrastructure Program. This funding means we can accelerate the upgrade or replacement of school pedestrian crossings and refuges, and build new footpaths, shared user paths and safety infrastructure such as kerb ramps at 32 schools.
A list of the 32 school locations, which have been identified by Council’s Safer Schools project, are available on Council’s website. The Safer Schools project reviews road safety around schools, in consultation with schools and the community.
We are currently asking for community feedback on proposals for the first round of schools in the program, with work due to start in the coming months.
You can find out more and have your say as we consult on each school area over the coming months.
