An exciting pop-up community space has arrived in Croydon South to help support local businesses, increase vibrancy, and create somewhere for people to relax and reconnect.
From March until June, Eastfield Shops, corner Eastfield Road and Bayswater Road, will be transformed into the Croydon South Pop-Up Park - a fun community space offering the community the chance to enjoy a vibrant outdoor space.
Pop-in anytime, explore the space featuring shade and relaxed seating, connect with friends and join in one of the many programmed activities.
Tarralla Ward Councillor Paul Macdonald said the pop-up park was open to everyone and was all about creating community connections.
“Living locally is an important way to increase community resilience, support one another as we recover from the impacts of COVID-19, and get involved with making your neighbourhood a better place to live, work and play,” Cr Macdonald said.
“A number of events and activities will take place in Croydon South Pop-Up Park, but there will also be plenty of time for people to sit, relax and enjoy the local community space,” he said.
The project is being delivered by Council through funding from the Department of Jobs, Precincts, and Regions and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning to trial learnings from the 20-Minute Neighbourhood Pilot Program.
“This 20-minute neighbourhoods initiative focuses on providing a place for local community to come together, connect with one another, and support local business. Over the coming months we will be providing vibrant pop-up spaces and activities, as well as revitalised public amenities that will let you see your local area in a new light, with an increased offering of activities, events and opportunities for play,” Cr Macdonald said.
“We will also be checking in with the community to hear your views about this new pop-up space, what you enjoyed or how it could be improved. We also invite you to share with us your photos enjoying the space using #croydonsouthpopup,” he said.
