Weaner heifers sell to 570c/$1370 at Blackall...

A total of 1509 head of cattle were yarded for the monthly Blackall weaner sale. Rain in the central and north west was the cause of a reduced yarding.

Consignments of lightweight weaners from the north were predominant again along with smaller runs of good quality local weaners and feeder cattle.

A large percentage of the yarding was sourced from Richmond, Hughenden and Winton along with cattle from Jericho, Barcaldine and local consignments.

Bulls under 450kg sold to 323c, average 311c, and bulls over 450kg made 290c, average 273c.

Cows under 300kg sold to 220c, average 177c, cows 300-400kg sold to 272c, average 256c, cows 400-500kg made 272c, average 261c, and cows over 500kg reached 290c, to average 280c.

Heifers under 220kg made 570c, average 452c, heifers 220-280kg sold to 546c, averaging 431c, heifers 280-350kg reached 480c, average 377c, heifers 350-450kg made 388c, average 358c, and heifers over 450kg sold to 325c, averaging 317c.

Steers under 220kg sold to 580c, average 522c, steers 220-280kg sold to 580c, averaging 482c, steers 280-350kg made 562c, average 486c, steers 350-400kg reached 520c, average 346c, and steers 400-550kg made 446c, average 372c.

Mickeys made to 542c, to average 418c.

Cows and calves made to $2425/unit, averaging $2295/unit.

Benalla Stud Grazing, Monavale, Hughenden, sold a very good draft of Simmental/ Simbrah weaners with the steers reaching 526.2c at 301kg to return $1586/hd and heifers to a top of 570c at 255kg to return $1370. The heifers topped at $1453/hd.

RJ and AV Whiting, Inverurie, Jericho, sold good Brahman steers for 478.2c at 298kg to return $1426/hd. Camden Park Grazing, Camden Park, Hughenden, sold good quality PTIC Brahman heifers for 378.2c at 377kg to return $1426/hd. LS Smith, Oakvale, Pentland, sold Brahman steers for 490c averaging 231.5kg returning $1134.35/hd.

Geltch Trading, Aramac, sold Droughtmaster steers to a top of 526.2c weighing 205kg returning $1078. They also sold heifers to a top of 534c weighing 195kg to return $1041.
