Get tested - COVID links to Byron Bay

The Northern NSW Local Health District is asking for anyone not feeling well or with mild flu-like symptoms to get tested after confirmation that two people who have tested positive for COVID-19 were in Byron Bay on the weekend.

Details about where the people visited and what they did when they were in Byron is still being confirmed but information received so far is that they visited:

Anyone who attended these venues should get tested immediately and self-isolate until they get the results.

NSW Health advises that a list of venues of concern, and the related health advice, will be available on the NSW Government website and people from the Byron Bay area or those who visited at the weekend are asked to check it regularly for updates: https://nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates.

NSW Health has opened additional COVID-19 testing clinics In Byron Bay and is increasing the hours of existing clinics across northern NSW from today.

In addition to the existing clinic at Byron Hospital, a new clinic has been set up at the Cavanbah Centre on Ewingsdale Road and at the Byron Bay Surf Club.

Byron Shire Mayor, Simon Richardson, said while information is still coming in from Health authorities in NSW and Queensland it is imperative that local residents and people who were working or visiting Byron Bay on the weekend get tested if they feel unwell.

“People have a lot of questions at the moment and naturally everyone is quite anxious about the evolving situation so they should check in regularly with the NSW Health website and Facebook page for the latest updates,” Mayor Richardson said.

In the meantime Council is urging anyone with questions about Bluesfest, which is planned for the Easter weekend, to contact Bluesfest organisers or NSW Health for information as Council is not the consent authority for the event.
