Snowy Monaro Regional Council is calling on the community to provide their feedback on the new draft waste management strategy for the region.

In 2020 residents of the Snowy Monaro were consulted about how waste is currently managed in the region. This feedback was instrumental in bringing this new draft strategy to fruition.

“The people of the Snowy Monaro were forthright with their feedback on this important topic and I am happy to say that we’ve been able to incorporate it in this draft strategy,” said Mayor Peter Beer, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.

The recurring requests from 2020’s community consultations were: •Expansion of kerbside collection services •Green bins (food organics and garden organics) •Bulky waste collection •Accessibility and affordability

Under the draft strategy kerbside collections will expand to cover more areas. Households and businesses currently receiving kerbside collection services will be eligible to receive a food organics and garden organics (FOGO) green bin.

Additionally there will be a trial of bulky waste collection for pensioners, concession card holders and people with a disability. If this trial proves successful the business case for further expansion of the service will be considered.

The community is encouraged to find full information, community information sessions, and the opportunity for direct feedback online through Council’s YourSay page at www.yoursaysnowymonaro.com.au
