Corangamite Shire is looking for three community representatives to serve on its Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC).
Representatives, preferably one each from the north, centre and south of the shire, will serve a term of three years helping to plan for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.
Corangamite Shire Manager Environment and Emergency and MEMPC Chair Lyall Bond said ideal candidates could draw on their expertise or interest in areas such as farming, land management, conservation, indigenous, tourism and business, aged and disability, youth, arts and culture, or sport.
“We are looking for people with a range of perspectives who are interested in emergency planning with a multi-agency committee,” Mr Bond said.
“Having faced floods, fires and now a pandemic in the past decade, there is such a wealth of knowledge across the shire.”
“It is a valuable role and an opportunity to share knowledge and ideas that will ultimately help protect our communities.
“I encourage anyone with experience or a keen interest to put their hand up and work with us to better plan and prepare for our next emergency,” he said.
The MEMPC is made up of representatives from Corangamite Shire, emergency services, State Government departments, utility providers and not-for-profit organisations.
The committee meets every quarter and is responsible for preparing Corangamite Shire’s Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP) 2022-2024.
Applicants are encouraged to view the current Municipal Emergency Management Plan 2019-2021 and complete an online Expression of Interest at www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/MEMPC before 5 pm, Tuesday 6 April.
