Wearing masks will be mandatory from today (Tuesday, March 30) at all of Toowoomba Regional Council’s public facilities.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio said the latest Queensland Health directive would apply to Council staff and members of the public who were working in, or visiting, any TRC public facility.
Mayor Antonio said masks would be needed at all Toowoomba Region service centres, libraries, swimming pools, fitness and recreation centres, art galleries, community facilities, cultural centres, museums, Visitor Information Centres, the Toowoomba Animal Management Centre, waste facilities and meeting rooms.
“Our primary goal is to ensure the health and safety of all residents and our staff at every one of our public facilities, plus all Council work areas,” Mayor Antonio said.
“All of Council’s public sites will continue to display the mandatory QR codes for contact tracing purposes, if required.
“It is important for residents to follow the established health and safety guidelines that have served us well to date.
“Please stay at home if you are unwell and arrange to be tested if you have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild. (*See testing locations below)
“Stay 1.5 metres away from other people, wash your hands properly with soap and water (or sanitiser) and leave a location if it is crowded.
“Now is not the time to relax or ignore these important health protocols.
“We also have signs that refer to these long-stated public health directives at respective venues.
“The latest Greater Brisbane three-day lockdown is a timely reminder about how disciplined and careful our community needs to be to guard against the spread of covid-19.
“I call on residents to follow the latest Queensland Health Covid-19 advice in the wake of the state government’s announcement of a three-day lockdown in the Greater Brisbane area from 5pm on Monday (March 29).
“While the Toowoomba Region is excluded from the lockdown area (Greater Brisbane and the Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Redlands and Logan local government areas), it is imperative for residents to abide by the latest update.
“Anyone who has visited the lockdown area since March 20 will have to follow the isolation guidelines.
“Toowoomba Region residents have displayed common sense in their approach to safeguard their families and the wider community since the start of the Coronavirus early last year.
“I thank residents for listening to the health advice and willingly acting to keep everyone safe.
“Council will continue to monitor all state and federal government announcements and will act in accordance with any directives to keep our Region safe.”
